Italy, Mountains Resorts

There are two major mountain ranges in Italy, the Alps and the Apennines. The Alps run west to east across Northern Italy and share borders with France, Switzerland and Austria. The Apennine Mountains run 1000km north to south along Italy’s eastern coast.

Centro Solaria lies at the higher of the two sites which form the purpose built ski centre of Marilleva. The ski lifts are directly outside the complex and all the sports, restaurant, amusement and accommodation facilities are in interconnected buildings. There is a daytime mini-club for children. Winter skiing is extensive with over 150km of linked pistes and 8km of cross-country trails. Summer activities include skiing at Passo Tonale, walking, horse-riding and canoeing. Centro Vacanze Veronza

Centro Vacanze Veronza (1100m) is situated in the very beautiful Trentino region of northern Italy. The famous Dolomite ski resort of Cavalese is less than 3.5km away. The ancient town of Trento is within easy driving distance and the famous Dolomite passes suchas Passo Sella. In winter the area offers the possibility to practise downhill and cross-country skiing. The skiing area know as 'Pampeago/Obereggen' is only 30 minutes away by car. In summer there are good opportunities for fishing, riding, tennis, hiking and walking.

Madonna di Campiglio , Italy

The area offers 37 miles (60 kilometers) of Alpine and cross-country ski trails, horseback riding, fishing, tennis, and casino gambling. Next door is an 18-hole golf course, open seasonally. Hotel Alaska (1224m) is located in the centre of the prestigious mountain resort of Cortina di Ampezzo, just 50m from the main shopping street. This was once the scene of a Winter Olympic games. This is an all season resort - a network of ski lifts opens up both sides of the valley for winter skiers and there are cross- country ski trails and a covered ice rink. Residenza Parco dello Stelvio 2 (1150m) is a ski resort and an attractive summer holiday retreat. This resort, built in traditional chalet style and developed around a hotel complex, has good skiing with lifts to 2400m. Summer skiing is available at nearby Passo del Tonale. Tscherms, Italy

Ferienclub Breitenbergerhof situated only two miles away from the popular town of Merano, well-known for its healthy climate. The vineyards and fruit valleys in the area make it ideal for hikers. In winter guests can take a bus to the ski regions of Merano 2000. Facilities at the resort include a restaurant, bar, indoor pool, and sauna. Breitenbergerhof has an excellent restaurant, cocktail bar, sauna, solarium, and pool. The units are in the Tyrolean style, which is still very popular in this part of northern Italy.
